Wine of the Week: Brut Nature Réserve & Why Christmas Was Practically Invented for Sparkling Wine
Share
You know when a wine is so good it practically demands its own spotlight?
That’s exactly how I feel about our Réserve Extra Brut. It’s crisp, refined, beautifully balanced and honestly, the perfect excuse to start celebrating Christmas early. (I firmly believe December rules don’t apply when bubbles are involved.)
This bottle has only 6g of sugar per litre, which officially makes it Extra Brut dry enough to feel elegant and grown-up, but not so dry that your tastebuds beg for mercy. Think of it as the ideal sweet spot of sparkling wine: refreshing, precise, and dangerously easy to keep sipping.
So what makes Extra Brut so exciting?
OK, mini wine lesson incoming (don’t worry, I’ll keep it fun).
Sparkling wines can range from sweet to bone-dry. Extra Brut sits VERY close to the dry end but not quite as fierce as Brut Nature. With its tiny 6g of sugar, you get:
✔️ freshness without sharpness
✔️ structure without bitterness
✔️ fruit without sweetness
In other words: balance.
And this wine nails it.
Made from Mauzac grapes grown in Limoux, Languedoc, it also comes from a region with some very cool bragging rights: Limoux is believed by many historians to be the birthplace of sparkling wine. Yes, even before Champagne. Imagine monks in 1531 popping corks before it was fashionable iconic behaviour.
What it tastes like (AKA the good part)
You can expect:
✨ Crisp green apple
✨ Fresh citrus
✨ A touch of white blossom
✨ That subtle creamy note from ageing on the lees
✨ All wrapped up in a clean, refreshing finish
It tastes like someone bottled the feeling of stepping outside on a cold, bright December morning: crisp, energising, and full of promise.
My favourite pairings (you’re welcome)
This is where Extra Brut absolutely shines it pairs with so much more than you’d expect.
Here’s what I recommend:
-
🦪 Oysters or prawns the classic, unbeatable pairing
-
🧀 Goat’s cheese trust me, perfection
-
🍗 Roast turkey or chicken ideal for Christmas lunch
-
🥔 Crispy roast potatoes I refuse to explain myself
-
🎄 Cheesy party nibbles yes, even the ones from the supermarket
-
🥐 Smoked salmon bagels festive brunch heaven
And honestly?
My real favourite pairing: drinking a glass while wrapping presents and pretending I’m more organised than I actually am.
Why Christmas is the best time for bubbles
Let’s be honest: Christmas practically demands sparkling wine.
The fairy lights are twinkling, the fridge is full, the social calendar is chaos… and everything just feels more magical with a glass of fizz in hand.
But this year, instead of reaching for the obvious choice (yes, I’m looking at you, Champagne), our Réserve Extra Brutlets you:
✔️ support a small, family-run Languedoc producer
✔️ enjoy exceptional quality without the Champagne price tag
✔️ impress guests who think they know sparkling wine
✔️ treat yourself because December is exhausting
It’s elegant. It’s festive. It’s refreshing enough to revive you between mince pies.
Honestly, what more do you want from a holiday wine?
Final Pour
So there you go this week’s star, our Réserve Extra Brut, is everything I love about Languedoc sparkling wine: expressive, beautifully made, and perfect for any moment that needs a little sparkle.
Whether you’re hosting, gifting, celebrating, or just surviving December…
this is the bottle that’s going to carry you through.
Now go on, pour a glass.
You’ve earned it. 🥂✨
