Wine of the Week: Marins d’Eau Douce Rouge

A Winter’s Embrace in a Glass

There’s something about opening a bottle of Marins d’Eau Douce Rouge on a cold evening that feels almost ritualistic. The soft pop of the cork, the first swirl that releases a wave of red fruit and spice into the room. It’s a wine that doesn’t just warm your hands; it warms your soul.

Born along the ancient valleys of Resclauze and Ruchol, this blend of Merlot, Marselan, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Carignan is a perfect meeting of tradition and modern craft. Each grape brings its own voice to the chorus. Merlot offers velvet and depth, Marselan adds juicy richness, Cabernet brings structure, and Carignan ties it all together with a rustic southern hum.

In the glass, it’s a deep ruby hue, glinting like polished garnet under candlelight. The first nose is cherry syrup and ripe berries, but linger a little longer and you’ll catch a touch of forest earth after rain.

Take a sip, and the texture is instantly comforting: silky yet robust, a balance between freshness and warmth. The flavours unfold like a story. red plum, raspberry, a brush of spice, then a gentle, rounded finish that leaves you ready for another glass.

This is a wine for slow food, for the dishes that fill the house with aroma and patience. Think slow-braised lamb with rosemary, duck with a cherry glaze, or a board of creamy brie and mature cheddar, served beside a crackling fire.

Serve it slightly cool, around 15°C, and let it breathe it opens up like a good conversation.
